Product Description

Double Plus Adhesive KC29 Yellow is a synthetic rubber-based, solvent-borne contact adhesive formulated for immediate bond strength. It dries to a tough, flexible film with good resistance to water and ageing, and may be applied by brush or roller coater.

APPLICATION AREAS

Double Plus Adhesive KC29 Yellow is a high-strength, multipurpose contact adhesive suitable for bonding flexible and rigid substrates. It provides excellent adhesion to vulcanized rubber, micro-cellular rubber, micro-cellular EVA, painted metal, mild steel, glass, galvanized steel, chip board, polyurethane foam, polystyrene sheet, leather, leather board, GRP and rigid PVC boards.

It is suitable for automotive, railway, vehicle-building, shipbuilding and insulation applications, including bonding flexible elastomeric natural rubber foam sheets or tubes to metal ducting. Non-polar substrates such as polyethylene foam or polypropylene should be evaluated before production use. Do not apply directly on Styrofoam/Thermocole, as the solvent may affect the surface; instead, apply the adhesive to the non-affected surface such as cement or steel, where applicable.

METHOD OF APPLICATION

  • Clean the substrates to be bonded. Surfaces must be dry and free from dust, dirt, oil, grease, mould-release agents and other contaminants.
  • Apply Double Plus Adhesive KC29 Yellow uniformly on both substrates using a suitable brush or roller coater. Porous substrates may require a second coat after 5 - 10 minutes of the first coat.
  • Allow the adhesive film to dry for 20 - 30 minutes at room temperature. The dry film should feel dry but tacky. The finger test may be used as a practical indication of open time; actual open time may vary depending on temperature, relative humidity and substrate type.
  • After the appropriate open time, bring both substrates together, align them properly and press firmly. The bonded components do not normally require a pressure fixture.
  • Allow the adhesive bond to cure for 24 - 48 hours before subjecting the assembly to further processing or service conditions.

SAFETY AND HANDLING PRECAUTIONS

Keep the container tightly closed when not in use to minimise solvent evaporation. The adhesive is highly flammable; smoking, naked flames, sparks and other sources of ignition must be strictly avoided in the working area. Store the product in a cool area below 25 oC and provide adequate ventilation on the shop floor.
